The opportunity
Ashley was engaged to lead an opportunity mapping and strategy development exercise on behalf of the climate team at a global insurance industry leader, focused on innovative risk transfer solutions across three themes: Oceans, Food Systems, and Biodiversity.
His evidence-led approach and firsthand commercial experience in these sectors helped the team to define priority customer segments, product suite, partnership options, and practical steps to execute the go-to-market roadmap.
The solution
Ashley pinpointed where external market needs aligned to products, data and expertise that already existed in-house. This reduced the complexity, cost and time involved in establishing key ‘nature / natural capital’ capabilities and serving new customers, while opening up cross-selling opportunities.
His recommendations included playbooks to maximize the potential of Alternative Risk Transfer solutions—such as parametric and index-based solutions—to meet the escalating demand for climate and nature de-risking; as well as ‘quick win’ opportunities to integrate risk transfer products into existing investment processes and supply chain transactions.
