The opportunity
The global bulk storage and warehousing sector plays a key role in international trade and in enabling supply chain resilience. Across dry bulk, liquid bulk, and cold storage, the market opportunity was valued at nearly $600bn in 2024.
Despite its substantial scale, the sector is highly fragmented with significant inefficiencies across all three storage modalities. In addition, there is low uptake of technological innovation and digital integration, creating opportunities for investors with large balance sheets to drive greater efficiencies.
The solution
Portico’s Managing Partner undertook an opportunity mapping exercise for a sovereign wealth fund.
This entailed more than 50 Key Informant Interviews to surface investable opportunities in 30+ markets and develop a structured taxonomy that facilitated investment analysis.
In addition, the Managing Partner developed an investment concept to create a globally integrated commodity trading company in a $5bn agricultural product for which there were no fully integrated traders.
